Altair Engineering is a simulation, HPC, and data analytics software company founded in 1985 in Troy, Michigan by James Scapa, George Christ, and Mark Kistner. The platform includes HyperWorks for simulation, PBS Professional for HPC, and RapidMiner for data analytics and AI.

Altair serves more than 15,000 customers globally including leading automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing companies. The company was publicly listed on NASDAQ as ALTR.

Siemens announced the $10.6 billion acquisition of Altair in October 2024, which closed in 2025. Altair now operates within Siemens Digital Industries Software. James Scapa remains CEO.
