datasnipper.com/DataSnipper is a software company that develops an intelligent automation platform for auditing and finance, delivered as an add-in for Microsoft Excel. The tool lets auditors and accountants extract, match and cross-reference data from source documents such as invoices, bank statements and contracts directly within their spreadsheets. The company was founded in 2017 by Kai Bakker, Jonas Ruyter and Maarten Alblas, and is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The platform is built around 'snips' that link figures in an Excel workbook to their supporting evidence, combining document matching, data extraction and optical character recognition for audit testing, financial due diligence and reconciliation work. DataSnipper says its software is used by more than 400,000 auditors and finance professionals across roughly 125 countries, including all of the Big Four accounting firms—Deloitte, KPMG, Ernst & Young and PwC—as well as every one of the world's top 100 accounting firms. It has expanded from its core audit use case into adjacent finance and document-review workflows through additional AI features.
DataSnipper grew with limited outside capital before taking an undisclosed minority growth-equity investment from Insight Partners in September 2022. In February 2024 it raised a $100 million Series B led by Index Ventures at a $1 billion valuation, making it one of the Netherlands' newest unicorns and one of the larger European software rounds of that period. Vidya Peters, a former chief operating officer of payments company Marqeta, joined as chief executive in 2023. The company employs roughly 300 people.
