Discord is a voice, video, and text chat platform founded in 2015 in San Francisco by Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy. Originally built for gamers, the service now hosts communities around education, tech, music, and creators, with more than 200 million monthly active users.

Discord monetizes primarily through Nitro subscriptions and boosts, with server revenue sharing introduced in recent years. The company filed confidentially for a U.S. IPO in 2025.

Discord has raised nearly $1 billion from investors including Benchmark, Greylock, Index Ventures, Sony, and Spark Capital. Its last private valuation was approximately $15 billion, reached in a 2021 Series H funding round.
