Hedra was founded in 2023 by Michael Lingelbach (CEO) and Alex Bergman (CTO) and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company operates as a frontier AI lab focused on building visual intelligence models and products for video generation, with an emphasis on expressive character video for content creators and enterprise marketers.

Its primary model, Character-3, generates talking-character video with synchronized lip-sync, motion, and voice from combined text, image, and audio inputs. The platform's Infinite Canvas workspace enables users to progress from script to finished video clip in a single environment, with AI agents that learn user or team brand preferences and reuse assets across projects. By mid-2024, over 350,000 users had generated more than 1.6 million videos on the platform.

Hedra raised a $10 million seed round in June 2024 from Index Ventures, Abstract Ventures, and a16z Speedrun, followed by a $32 million Series A in May 2025 led by Andreessen Horowitz's infrastructure fund, bringing total funding to approximately $43 million at a valuation of around $200 million. At the time of the Series A, the company employed roughly 20 people and had plans to triple headcount.
