Perplexity

Perplexity is an AI search company founded in 2022 in San Francisco by Aravind Srinivas, Denis Yarats, Johnny Ho, and Andy Konwinski. The consumer product provides cited, conversational answers to complex queries by combining LLMs with live web retrieval.

Perplexity has tens of millions of monthly users and launched Comet, a browser with a built-in AI agent, in 2025. The company has partnerships with publishers for revenue sharing on cited content.

Perplexity raised a $500 million Series E in December 2024 at an $18 billion valuation, and further rounds have put its valuation north of $20 billion. Total funding is approximately $1.4 billion from investors including IVP, NEA, NVIDIA, and Jeff Bezos.
