Treehouse

Treehouse Island, Inc. is an online coding education platform founded in March 2011 by Ryan Carson and Gillian Carson and headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The platform delivers 300+ self-paced courses, interactive browser-based workspaces, and bootcamp-style Techdegree programs covering web development, Python, JavaScript, data analysis, UX design, and AI.

The platform serves learners from beginner to advanced levels through video lessons, code challenges, quizzes, and human-graded projects. Treehouse has educated over 1.2 million students across 190 countries and partners with public libraries nationwide to offer free access. Techdegree programs are ACE-accredited and include career coaching and digital certificates for job seekers entering the tech industry.

Treehouse raised approximately $14 million in venture funding from investors including Social Capital and Greylock Partners, with a $7 million Series B in April 2013. In December 2021, Xenon Partners, a private equity firm operating a portfolio of technology brands, acquired Treehouse following a significant workforce reduction earlier that year. Kari Brooks has served as CEO since January 2024.
