Abridge is a healthcare AI company founded in 2018 by Shiv Rao, a cardiologist, and headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The company develops software that records and transcribes clinical conversations in real time, then generates structured clinical documentation—such as SOAP notes—directly within electronic health record systems.

Abridge's primary product integrates with Epic, one of the dominant EHR platforms in the United States, and is deployed at major health systems including UCSF Health, UC San Diego Health, and Kaiser Permanente. The platform is designed to reduce the documentation burden on physicians and nurses by automating the generation of after-visit summaries and clinical notes from ambient audio captured during patient encounters.

The company raised a $150 million Series C round in February 2024, bringing its total funding to approximately $212.5 million. Investors include Spark Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Union Square Ventures, among others. Abridge has grown its health system partnerships substantially following its Epic integration, positioning it alongside competitors such as Nuance (Microsoft) DAX and Suki in the ambient clinical documentation market.
