Jina AI

Jina AI was founded in 2020 by Han Xiao, formerly head of AI at Tencent, to build open-source neural search infrastructure. The company released the Jina framework for building multimodal search applications and subsequently shifted focus to publishing high-quality embedding and reranking models, including jina-embeddings-v3, jina-reranker-v2, jina-clip-v2, and the Reader API that converts URLs to LLM-friendly content.

Models are released under Apache 2.0 and accessible via a hosted API, distinguished by long-context support (up to 8,192 tokens) and broad multilingual coverage. Customers use Jina embeddings in RAG, semantic search, and recommendation pipelines.

Jina AI is headquartered in Berlin, Germany with additional engineering presence in Beijing and Shenzhen. The company has raised approximately $40 million across seed and Series A rounds led by Canaan Partners, Yunqi Capital, and others.
