Qdrant

Qdrant is an open-source vector database and vector similarity search engine developed in Rust, founded in 2021 and headquartered in Berlin, Germany. The company was founded by Andrey Vasnetsov and builds infrastructure for storing and querying high-dimensional vector embeddings, which are commonly used in machine learning and AI applications such as semantic search, recommendation systems, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

Qdrant's primary product is its eponymous vector database, available as an open-source self-hosted solution and as a managed cloud service called Qdrant Cloud. The engine supports filtering, payload storage alongside vectors, and multiple distance metrics. It is used in AI-powered search, anomaly detection, and similarity matching use cases across industries. The project has accumulated significant adoption on GitHub, with tens of thousands of stars, and is used by developers building applications on top of large language models.

Qdrant raised a $28 million Series A round in 2024, bringing its total disclosed funding to approximately $28 million. The company operates with a team in the range of 11–50 employees and distributes its core engine under the Apache 2.0 open-source license, while monetizing through its managed cloud offering.
