Kaggle

Kaggle is an online platform for data science and machine learning, founded in 2010 by Anthony Goldbloom and Ben Hamner in Melbourne, Australia, and later headquartered in San Francisco, CA. The platform hosts competitions in which organizations post data problems and offer prize money for the best predictive models, attracting a large community of data scientists and machine learning practitioners.

Kaggle's core products include a competition platform, a public dataset repository, cloud-based Jupyter notebooks (Kaggle Notebooks) with free GPU and TPU access, and discussion forums. Organizations such as Merck, Facebook, and various government agencies have used Kaggle competitions to crowdsource solutions to data problems. The platform also serves as a learning resource through its Kaggle Learn courses covering topics such as Python, SQL, and deep learning.

Google acquired Kaggle in March 2017 for a reported sum in the range of $25–$30 million, though the exact figure was not publicly disclosed. Following the acquisition, Kaggle continued to operate as a distinct brand under Google LLC. Anthony Goldbloom served as CEO for many years post-acquisition before transitioning leadership; Sohier Dane subsequently took over as head of the platform. Kaggle has grown to host millions of registered users and tens of thousands of public datasets.
