About Snowflake Inc.

Snowflake Inc. was founded in 2012 by Benoit Dageville, Thierry Cruanes, and Marcin Zukowski to build a cloud-native data warehouse with separated storage and compute. The Data Cloud platform now spans data warehousing, data lakes, data engineering, data science, data applications, and AI workloads.

The company went public on the NYSE in September 2020 in what was at the time the largest software IPO in US history. Sridhar Ramaswamy became CEO in February 2024, succeeding Frank Slootman. Snowflake operates across AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud regions.

Headquartered in Bozeman, Montana with major engineering offices in San Mateo, California, Snowflake employs approximately 7,000 people and reported FY24 revenue of $2.8 billion.

Fivetran, Inc.8.1/10

Managed ELT/data pipeline tool that loads data into warehouses including Snowflake, positioning it as a complementary ingestion layer rather than a direct storage/compute competitor, though it increasingly bundles transformation and destination features that push into adjacent territory.
