Stability AI is a generative AI research company founded in 2019 in London by Emad Mostaque. The company is best known for releasing Stable Diffusion, the open-source text-to-image model that catalyzed the 2022 generative AI wave, along with subsequent models for audio, video, language, and 3D.

Stability serves developers, media companies, and enterprises customizing open models, including partnerships with WPP and James Cameron's Lightstorm Vision. The company has pivoted toward enterprise and creative-industry applications.

Prem Akkaraju, former CEO of Weta Digital, was appointed CEO in June 2024 alongside an approximately $80 million investment from Eric Schmidt, Greycroft, Coatue, Sound Ventures, and Lightspeed. Emad Mostaque departed in March 2024.
