Supabase

Supabase provides an open-source alternative to Firebase, offering developers a complete backend-as-a-service platform built on PostgreSQL. The company was founded in 2020 by Paul Copplestone and Ant Wilson and is headquartered in Singapore.

The platform combines PostgreSQL database hosting with authentication, real-time subscriptions, auto-generated APIs, file storage, and edge functions. Supabase serves developers building web and mobile applications, with customers ranging from startups to enterprises. The company positions itself as an open-source Firebase alternative, with all core components available under open-source licenses.

Supabase raised $30 million in Series A funding in December 2021 led by Felicis Ventures, following an $6 million seed round in July 2021. The company has grown to over 100 employees and reports more than 1 million developers using its platform. In 2023, Supabase launched additional enterprise features and expanded its global infrastructure with multiple regions.
