About Almanac Labs Inc

Almanac Labs Inc was founded in 2019 by Adam Nathan, Malinda Coler Johnson, Dan Bartlett, and Taylor Thompson in San Francisco, California. The company built an asynchronous document collaboration platform combining wiki-style editing with Git-inspired version control, targeting distributed and remote-first teams.

The platform offered document editing, approval workflows (called Layers), version control, and integrations with Jira, GitHub, and Slack. Almanac competed with Confluence, Notion, and Asana, positioning itself as an operating system for remote work. The platform maintained SOC2 and HIPAA compliance and supported SSO and SAML provisioning for enterprise customers.

Almanac raised $9 million in a Seed round in May 2020, led by Floodgate, followed by a $34 million Series A in September 2021 led by Tiger Global with participation from General Catalyst and Floodgate, bringing total funding to $43 million. The company shut down the Almanac platform on January 31, 2025, as the team pivoted to a new AI product called Blaze.
