About vLex

vLex is a legal technology company that operates an AI-powered legal research platform covering case law, legislation, dockets and regulatory materials from more than 100 countries. It was founded in 2000 in Barcelona by brothers Lluís Faus, who serves as chief executive, and Ángel Faus, its chief technology officer, and it maintains offices in Barcelona, London and Miami.

The company's core products include its multi-jurisdictional legal research library, used by more than two million lawyers, researchers, courts and law schools, and Vincent AI, a generative-AI assistant that drafts legal arguments with cited supporting authority drawn from vLex's collection of over one billion legal documents. Following a 2023 merger with US-based Fastcase, vLex added the Fastcase, Docket Alarm and NextChapter brands, expanded across the American market and counts most of the Am Law 100 firms among its clients.

vLex was majority-owned by private-equity firm Oakley Capital, whose Origin fund backed a 2022 buyout of the business. In June 2025, practice-management software company Clio agreed to acquire vLex for approximately US$1 billion, the largest deal in legal-technology history, with the transaction closing later that year after regulatory approval. The company employs an estimated 200-plus staff across offices in Europe and the Americas.
