Clipdrop

Clipdrop is an AI image editing platform founded in 2020 by Cyril Diagne, Jonathan Blanchet, and Damien Henry as InitML, a Paris-based startup. The team participated in Y Combinator's Winter 2021 cohort. InitML was acquired by Stability AI in February 2023, and Stability AI subsequently sold Clipdrop to marketing AI company Jasper in February 2024. The Clipdrop team continued operating from Paris after the acquisition.

The platform provides a suite of browser-based and API-accessible image editing tools, including background removal, object cleanup, image upscaling (up to 16x), text removal, image uncropping, and AI-powered relighting. Developers can integrate Clipdrop models directly into their products via the Clipdrop API. The platform supports Stable Diffusion XL for text-to-image generation.

InitML raised $1.5M in seed funding prior to the Stability AI acquisition in 2023. Jasper, which had raised $125M in a Series A round in 2022, acquired Clipdrop to expand its AI copilot capabilities for marketing teams into multimodal image creation. Terms of the Clipdrop acquisition were not disclosed. The Clipdrop team of fewer than 10 employees operates from Paris, France.
