Founded in 2006, AWS offers over 200 cloud services spanning compute, storage, networking, databases, and machine learning. Bedrock competes directly with Google Vertex AI and Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service in the managed AI model hosting market.
AWS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) and does not report separate funding. AWS generated approximately $107 billion in revenue in 2024, representing roughly 17% of Amazon's total net sales. Matt Garman became CEO of AWS in June 2024, succeeding Adam Selipsky. AWS employs tens of thousands of people globally across its infrastructure and services divisions.
