The platform offers a template library with 24 design categories, a layer-based editor, text-to-image generation powered by multiple AI models including GPT Image 2, background removal, image upscaling, and precision editing using a SAM3-based object selection tool. Playground supports merchandise fulfillment and file conversion, with most core tools available free of charge. Playground raised $40 million in July 2023 from Caffeinated Capital, Refactor Capital, Soma Capital, and Y Combinator. At the time, the company outlined a plan to advance AI-driven computer graphics research, including developing multi-task models capable of generating, editing, and understanding image content. The company employs approximately 11 to 50 people.
