PostHog was founded in 2020 by James Hawkins and Tim Glaser as an open-source alternative to closed product analytics tools. The platform combines event-based analytics, session recording, feature flags, A/B testing, surveys, and a data warehouse in a single self-hostable or hosted package licensed under MIT.

The company graduated from Y Combinator (W20) and has raised approximately $70M across seed, Series B, and Series C rounds led by Y Combinator and other investors. Notable customers include Airbus, Hasura, and Plaid.

PostHog operates fully remotely with a registered headquarters in San Francisco. Source code is developed openly on GitHub with over 23,000 stars.
